PREP SOFTBALL: Vinemont defeats Fairview on the road 11-4, Aggies fall to Brewer in final frame 4-3

FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to Fairview for a varsity matchup with the Lady Aggies Monday night and the Lady Eagles pulled ahead early to secure an 11-4 win. Nearby at the baseball field, the Aggies took on Brewer in their area opener and the Patriots scored in the top of the seventh to take a late lead and held on to defeat Fairview 4-3. The Lady Knights of Arab were also in town to take on the Lady Aggies and they were able to return home with a 13-6 win.

Vinemont 11 – Fairview 4 (Softball)

After holding Vinemont scoreless to start out the game, Fairview looked to get on the scoreboard first in their half. Emily Benson hit a leadoff double, then Jaycee Aleman reached on a bunt single. Aleman then stole second and Emma Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Aggies an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Eagles answered right back in the top of the second. Berkley Gable hit a leadoff single, then she moved to second on a Fairview error. Abigail Cody then bunted into a fielder’s choice, which allowed Gable to score on the play, and that tied the game up at one. Another Lady Aggie error allowed Cody to cross the plate and that gave the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Vinemont added to their lead in the top of the third. Faith Rusk hit a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Katelyn Evans hit a sacrifice fly to push Vinemont’s lead to 3-1. The Lady Eagles created some distance from them and Fairview in the fourth inning. Emilie Hoffman hit a one-out single and would later come around to score on a passed ball to make it 4-1. Reagan Robinson provided one of the biggest blows in the game with a two-run double to left field to increase Vinemont’s lead to 6-1.

The Lady Aggies, though, responded in their half of the inning. Kaitlyn Benson hit a leadoff double and Ayda Payne hit a one-out single to put runners on the corners. Benson stole home to make it 6-2, then later on, a Savannah Bryson RBI single cut the Vinemont lead to 6-3. Reagan Dunkin scored on a Lady Eagle error to make it a 6-4 game. A single and a walk quickly had Vinemont in business once again as they would later score on a passed ball to make it 7-4. Harris then added an RBI single and later scored on a Fairview error to push the Lady Eagle lead to 9-4.

The biggest blow of the game would come from Evans in the top of the sixth inning as her two-run home run made it an 11-4 game. The Lady Eagles’ Maci Smith made quick work of the Lady Aggies on just four pitches to end the game as Vinemont rebounded from an earlier loss to Fairview with an 11-4 win over Fairview.

Evans finished with two hits and three RBIs for Vinemont. Robinson added a hit and two RBIs. Harris ended up with a hit and an RBI. Cody collected an RBI as well. Rusk added three hits in the contest. Hoffman finished with a pair of hits, while Smith and Brooklyn Knott each collected a hit in the contest as well. Bryson finished with a hit and an RBI for Fairview. Emma Roberts added an RBI in the contest. Kaitlyn Benson ended up with three hits. Emily Benson and Payne each added a pair of hits and Dunkin chipped in with a hit of her own.

Fairview will host Cold Springs Thursday.

Brewer 4 – Fairview 3 (Baseball)

Parker Martin got the start for Fairview and quickly worked around a leadoff single to get out of the inning unscathed. Martin kept the Patriots off the scoreboard through the first three innings, and the Aggies got him some run support in their half of the third. Crimson Wright reached on an infield single with one out, then later on, Martin drew a two-out walk. Dalton Payne hit a two-run double to right field to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead, then he would later steal home to make it 3-0.

Brewer reached on a Fairview error to lead off the fourth inning, then an RBI double to left field put them on the scoreboard. A wild pitch with two outs allowed the Patriots to score and that made it a 3-2 contest. The Aggies loaded the bases with two outs in its half, but a strikeout ended the Fairview threat. A two-out RBI double by Brewer tied the game up at three in the top of the fifth inning. The Patriots threatened to break the tie in the sixth inning as they had a runner on second base with two outs. A single to right field looked to give Brewer the lead, but Carson Jones had other ideas as his perfect throw to Lucas West nailed the Brewer runner at the plate, keeping the game at a 3-3 tie.

The Aggies looked to build off of that huge play in their half as three straight walks loaded the bases with one out, but a strikeout and a pop out quickly ended that threat as well. The Patriots loaded the bases themselves with two outs in the seventh and an RBI single gave them a 4-3 lead. Fairview looked for some late-game heroics in their final at-bats. Payne hit a leadoff single, then one out later, a Gannon Black ground out moved Payne over to second with two outs. A strikeout, though, ended the game for Fairview as they ended up falling in heartbreaking fashion to Brewer, 4-3, in their area opener.

Payne finished with two hits and two RBIs for Fairview. Wright, West, Martin and Caden Jennings each added a hit in the contest. Martin gave up seven hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out 10 as he went the distance for the Aggies.

Fairview will head to Brewer for a rematch with the Patriots Thursday in a doubleheader.

Arab 13 – Fairview 6 (Softball)

Arab struck first in its opening at-bats. Doubles by Alexia Rice and Lily Livingston gave them an early 1-0 lead and they would add to their lead in the second. A walk and an error had the Lady Knights in business once again and Kaitlyn Salinas lined an RBI double to right field as that made it 2-0. The biggest blow of the inning came from Livingston as she crushed a three-run home run over the left field fence to push their lead to 5-0.

The Lady Aggies looked to answer in their half. Ayda Payne and Allie Scott each drew a walk to lead off the inning, then two outs later, Savannah Bryson hit a two-run double to cut the Fairview deficit to three at 5-2. Kaitlyn Benson reached on a Lady Knight error in the bottom of the third with one out and later on, Payne brought Benson home with an RBI double as that made it a 5-3 game. Payne scored on a passed ball to cut it to 5-4.

The Lady Knights loaded the bases in the fourth inning and a Lady Aggie throwing error allowed Ella Blackmon to cross the plate to make it 6-4. Lola Davis then hit an RBI single to center field to push their lead to 7-4. The Lady Aggies got those runs back in their half as Emily Benson hit a one-out single to left field. After a ground ball moved Benson over to second, Kaitlyn Benson lined a two-run home run over the center field fence to make it a 7-6 game.

Livingston continued her red-hot hitting as she hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 8-6. The Lady Knights had runners on first and second with two outs and Blackmon drove them both in as her two-run single made it 10-6. Arab put up three more runs in the seventh, two on a throwing error, and the third one on an RBI single by Tabitha Parkins. The Lady Aggies couldn’t get a rally started as the Lady Knights ended up defeating the Lady Aggies, 13-6.

Livingston finished with three hits and a game-high five RBIs for Arab. Blackmon added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Salinas and Davis each ended up with two hits and an RBI. Perkins added a hit and an RBI in the contest, while Rice and Sarah Bennefield each finished with a pair of hits. For Fairview, Kaitlyn Benson finished with the two-run home run. Bryson added a hit and two RBIs. Payne ended up with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Emily Benson and Allie Scott each collected a hit in the contest.
