WEST POINT, Ala. – The Lady Warriors hosted Falkville at Mike Brown Field Monday night and thanks to a couple long balls in the first inning and a 4-run fifth inning, No. 7 West Point improved to 13-3 on the year with an 8-2 win over the Lady Blue Devils.
An RBI double gave Falkville a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lady Warriors responded right away in their half of the inning. Bethany Minck led things off with a solo homerun to tie things up and after Macayla Wilkins reached on an error, Carlie Wilkins blasted a 2-run shot off the center field wall to extend the lead to 3-1 going into the second.
Wilkins and Braelee Quinn kept Falkville off the board through the next three innings but an RBI single from the Lady Blue Devils cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth. However, West Point got that run back and then some in the bottom half of the fifth, starting with an RBI single by Brindlee Phillips that made it a 4-2 game. A few pitches later, Sindey Burks lifted a 3-run homer over the center field wall and put the Lady Warriors in front 7-2 after five innings.
An RBI single from Wilkins tacked another run onto the lead in the bottom of the sixth and West Point collected the final three outs in the top of the seventh to wrap up an 8-2 win.
Wilkins finished 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs and Burks was 3-for-3 with three RBIs of her own. Minck added a pair of hits and an RBI and Kylee Quinn and Phillips each posted a hit as well.
The Lady Warriors will be back home Thursday for an area battle against Russellville.
