PREP BASEBALL: Arab downs West Point on the road 12-3

WEST POINT, Ala. – Arab traveled to West Point for a matchup against the Warriors and after building a big lead in the first two innings, the Knights pulled away to collect a 12-3 win.

Arab took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a 2-run bomb off the bat of Dakota Nesmith and the Knights continued adding to their lead in the second. Brody McCain laced an RBI single into left field to make it a 3-0 game and after another RBI single from Hayden Turner and a throwing error, Arab pulled ahead 6-0. A sacrifice fly by Nesmith brought another run across the plate and the Knights went into the bottom of the second inning leading 7-0.

Eli Folds put one in play with two outs and an error allowed a run to score but the Warriors still trailed 7-1 going into the third. A sacrifice bunt from John Ray Wilks put another run on the board for Arab in the top of third but West Point was able to cut into the lead in the fourth inning. Folds drilled a 2-run double into right field to bring in a pair of runners and trimmed the lead to 8-3 going into the fifth.

The Knights plated a couple more runs in the top half of the fifth with a pair of sacrifice flys from Wilks and Aidan Cox and went into the sixth with a 10-3 advantage. An RBI double from Turner and an error by the Warriors put two more Arab runs on the board in the top of the seventh and the Knights left with a 12-3 win over West Point.

Turner (two hits) drove in four RBIs in the win and Nesmith (two hits) posted three RBIs of his own. Wilks (one hit) finished with a pair of RBIs and McCain (one hit) and Cox (one hit) each added an RBI as well. McCain earned the win on the mound after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out five batters. Isaac Hoffpauir posted a pair of hits for West Point in the loss and Folds (one hit) finished with a pair of RBIs. Bryson Phillips and Cade Simmons added hits as well.
