PREP SOFTBALL: Cold Springs tops Addison on the road 9-3

ADDISON, Ala. — The Cold Springs Lady Eagles traveled to Alexander Park to take on the Addison Lady Bulldogs in an area clash and the Eagles’ hot bats and the Dawgs cold gloves led to Cold Springs coming away with a 9-3 victory.

The Lady Eagles came out hot against Addison’s ace, Anna Grace Luker. Lady Eagle Freshman Brooklyn Ingram singled to lead off and advanced to second on an error. Freshman Adriana Young followed with another single scoring Young. Senior Emma Black walked and then Junior Anna Stricklin reached on another Bulldog error to load the bases. Senior Hedi Nichols lined a single which scored two more Lady Eagle runs to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. After a strikeout, Senior Maddie Pearl singled driving in two more runs. At the end of the top of the first Cold Springs held a 5-0 lead.

Addison was able to answer back with a run in the second inning. Freshman Lainey Jo Evans singled and stole second. Evans then scored on a ground out by Junior Lydia Ergle to cut the Lady Eagle lead to 5-1.

Cold Springs got the run back in the top of the fourth inning. A one out single by Ingram was followed by consecutive hits, a single by Young and an RBI single by Black.  

The Eagles salted the game away by scoring two more runs in the fifth without getting a hit or walk. Three Lady Bulldog errors allowed both runs and going into the bottom of the fifth, Cold Springs led 8-1.

Addison had their best inning with the bats as they plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth.   Junor Lexie Luker led off with a single and that was followed by a single from Saige Carter.   Sophomore Dacey Baker hit a sacrifice fly scoring Lexie. Evans singled and that was followed by Sophomore Cara Bolinger single scoring Carter. After five innings, Cold Springs led 8-3.

The Lady Eagles plated one more run in the top of the seventh. Nichols doubled and after an out, Sophomore Journee Swann drove Nichols home with a single of her own. This brought the score to 9-3 and that was the final.

Cold Springs: Ingram went 2-5 with two runs scored. Young went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Black went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Ciara Calvert went hitless but had a run scored and a walk. Stricklin went 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Nichols went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Pearl went 1-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Swann went 1-4 with an RBI. Senior Starla Fuller went hitless but had a sacrifice.

Swann went the distance for the win giving up eight hits, three earned runs, striking out one and walking two.

Addison: Anna Grace Luker went 0-3 with a walk. Lexie Luker went 1-4 with a run scored.  Carter went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Baker went 1-2 with an RBI. Evans went 2-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Bolinger went 1-3 with an RBI. Ergle went 0-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Josie Riddle went 1-2 with a walk.
