WEST POINT, Ala. – With heavy rain moving through the area earlier Monday, the Lady Broncos and Lady Warriors had to move their game to Mike Brown Field at West Point High School Monday night and despite the wet conditions, the Lady Warriors were able to pick up an impressive, 11-1 win. West Point plates six runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win and on the mound, Braelee Quinn tossed all five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six batters.
Quinn worked around a two-out error to get out of the first inning unscathed. Mattie Earl got the start for Holly Pond and walked Bethany Minck to lead off the inning. She quickly settled down and got the next three batters to end the first. Kaylee Stallings hit a single to left field with one out for Holly Pond in the second and one out later, Brooke Hill drew a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. But Quinn got Lexie Smith to fly out to right to end the top half of the second.
The Lady Warriors took advantage of some sloppy Holly Pond defense to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. Braelee Quinn reached on a fielding error to lead off the inning, then Lexi Kimbril lined a single to left field. Back-to-back errors by the Lady Broncos allowed Kimbril and Kylee Quinn to cross the plate as that gave West Point a 2-0 lead. One out later, back-to-back RBI singles by Bethany Minck and Macayla Wilkins helped push the Lady Warrior lead to 4-0.
Holly Pond got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as Madyson Rickman crushed a solo home run over the center field wall to cut the deficit to three at 4-1. The Lady Warriors added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Ella Minck hit a leadoff single and she came around to score on an RBI double by Macayla Wilkins. After keeping the Lady Broncos scoreless in the top of the fifth, West Point looked to end the game in their half of the fifth.
Kimbril drew a leadoff walk, then Kylee Quinn lined a single to left field. Sidney Burks hit an RBI single to center field to make it 6-1. A walk loaded the bases, then one out later, Macayla Wilkins brought home a run on a walk. Carlie Wilkins lined a two-run single to left field to increase their lead to 9-1. Macayla Wilkins came around to score on a Holly Pond error and Carlie Wilkins scored on a passed ball to end the game as the Lady Warriors ended up taking home the win, 11-1.
Macayla Wilkins finished with two hits and three RBIs for West Point (10-3). Carlie Wilkins added a hit and two RBIs in the game. Bethany Minck and Burks each ended up with a hit and an RBI. Kimbril, Kylee Quinn, and Ella Minck each added a hit for the Lady Warriors. Braelee Quinn gave up just two hits, one earned run, walked one, and struck out six. For Holly Pond (2-3), Rickman (solo home run) and Stallings had the only two hits of the contest.Â
The Lady Warriors will host Hayden Tuesday afternoon, while the Lady Broncos will go back home Tuesday to face off against J.B. Pennington.
