ONEONTA, Ala. – The red-hot Good Hope Raiders made the trip over to Oneonta for an area championship battle with the Redskins Friday night but unfortunately, the Raiders’ winning streak finally came to an end. Oneonta was able to create separation from Good Hope in the third quarter and went on to defeat the Raiders 73-60 to claim this year’s area title.

Oneonta jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start out the contest, but Colton Lindsey put in a layup to make it 5-2. A driving layup by Noah Barnette cut Good Hope’s deficit to one at 5-4. Tanner Malin then drilled a three from the right wing to give the Raiders a 7-5 lead with 5:12 remaining in the opening period. But the Redskins got red-hot from the three-point line as an 8-0 run quickly gave them the lead right back at 12-7. A pair of Barnette free throws cut it to 12-9, but a pair of Oneonta treys pushed their lead to 18-9 late in the first quarter. A Tanner Malin driving layup and a Charlie O’Neil trey made it a 19-14 game going into the second period.

A basket in the paint by Jacob Haynes cut it to 22-18 early in the second quarter. Each team traded a three to keep it at a four-point game, and then a Redskin basket in the paint made it 28-23 with less than three minutes to go in the first half. A pair of Barnette baskets swiveled the Good Hope deficit to six at 31-25, but a pair of Oneonta threes helped pushed their lead to 37-27 at the half.

An Oneonta layup made it a 39-27 game to start out the third period, but five straight points by Lindsey cut it to 39-32. The Redskins, though, countered the Good Hope run with one of their own as they scored the next seven points to push their lead to 46-32. Tyler Cone and K’mal Bell each scored in the paint to make it a 47-36 game, then Malin drilled a three and Barnette added another basket in the paint to cut the Oneonta lead to 50-41. The Redskins knocked down yet another three to end the third period as the Raiders went into the final quarter down, 53-41.

Another Malin trey made it a 53-44 game to start out the final period, then another Bell basket cut it to 55-46. Bell put in another basket in the paint to make it 58-49, but an Oneonta basket pushed their lead to 60-49. Lindsey knocked down a pair of free throws and Tyler Cone drilled a trey to make it a 60-54 game with a little over four minutes to go in the game. Cone and Hancock each put in a basket in the paint to cut it to 62-58, but Oneonta quickly made it 66-58 after a pair of free throws. A Bell floater cut it to 66-60, but the Redskins would hit seven free throws in the end as Good Hope fell just short at the end to Oneonta, 73-60. Malin, Barnette, Lindsey, and Bell got named to the all-area tournament team.

Malin finished with 15 points for Good Hope (20-10). Barnette added 10 points. Lindsey put in nine points. Bell ended up with eight and Cone added seven. The Raiders will travel to Haleyville Tuesday for their Sub-Regional game.
