Norris Allen Atchley moved to our Father’s House on January 29, and, according to The Christian Apostle Paul, was received by his Savior, Lord and King who presented him with the Crown of Righteousness.
Those who knew Norris best will remember him as a generous, compassionate man of integrity and character. He lived his life to bring comfort, not judgement. A gentleman whose soft voice spoke words of encouragement and kindness, and whose strong arms freely offered “the best hugs.”
Wearing a sweet smile and without complaint, Norris bravely fought the ravages and challenges of Parkinson’s Disease, once responding to his wife’s question of why him, with “why not me?”
Norris was an avid reader and quiet achiever. A Golden Key National Honor Society graduate of UT, Knoxville who graduated first in his OCS Class, and served in the Army’s Armored Division, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.
He retired from Wells Fargo as a senior vice president, investments. As a servant who had a heart for all children, he actively worked to raise funds for children’s causes through Kiwanis, and served as a vice president, president and president of the board of Cullman Kiwanis Club. He also served on the Board of the Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Al in various capacities, including president of the Wallace State Foundation Board, where he and his wife shared the Barbara P And Norris A Foundation Scholarship for needy and deserving students. In lieu of flowers, contributions to this foundation would be appreciated. (WSCC Foundation PO Box 568 Hanceville. AL 35077).
His absence will be hard for his cherished family. Please pray they will find comfort knowing that he will live on within those whose lives he touched. In keeping with his wishes, there will be a reception at his daughter’s house on Sunday, February 20 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. to celebrate his life and happy memories at 2929 Hampton Cove Way, Owens Cross Roads Al.
