Anita Carter Benford, age 63, of Muscle Shoals, formerly of Haleyville, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at UAB Palliative Care, Birmingham.
She was born March 12, 1958 to O.D. and Christine Carter. Anita loved flower gardening. She enjoyed trips to the mountains. Most of all, she loved her family (especially her grandbabies). All those who knew her, were made “better”.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Sunny Home Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother Tim Carter will officiate.
Anita is survived by her daughter: Kisha (Justin) Crowden; grandchildren: Andrew Hendrix and Katie Beth Brewer; brothers: Thomas (Connie) Freeman, Billy (Sandra) Carter and Allen (Angie) Carter; sister: Freda (Timmy) Salter; sisters-in-law: Marylynn Carter and Rhonda (Jimmy) Salter; father-in-law: J.L. Benford and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years: Jessie Lonzo Benford, Jr.; grandson: Adam Hendrix; parents: O.D. and Christine Carter; brother: Teddy Carter; sister: Retia (T.E.) Walker and her mother-in-law: Martha Benford.
