CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Community Theater returns with its dinner theater production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” at Stone Bridge Farms on Feb. 18-20, 2022.
The story
Mortimer Brewster is living a happy life: he has a steady job at a prominent New York newspaper, he has just become engaged and he gets to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce the engagement. Mortimer always knew that his family had a bit of a mad gene – his brother believes himself to be Teddy Roosevelt and his great-grandfather used to scalp Indians for pleasure – but his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been hiding a crazy secret hobby for years! When Mortimer’s maniacal brother Jonathan returns, Mortimer must rally to help his aunts and protect his fiancé – all while trying to keep his own sanity, as well.
A farce on plays involving murder, “Arsenic and Old Lace” has become a favorite among regional theatres throughout America.
“We are so excited to not only get to have our first full season since before the Covid-19 pandemic began but also to see the return of our season opener, the Cullman Community Dinner Theatre,” said Production Operations Director Noah Carpenter. “This event is so special to our board and our members because there is no other community theater in our area who offers an experience like this. Everyone does their summer musicals, but no one does an event quite like this for their community, and I am so proud of our team for being willing to take the leap to pull off such a fun event for the people of Cullman and surrounding areas!
“For me on the operations side, a show like this is no easy task, especially while we continue to deal with COVID-19, but it is extra special because I get to be in the room with the people that support us all year. I get to see their faces, break bread with them, and love on them a little to show them just how thankful we are for each and every one of them! Supporters like Coach Andy Page who was always our greatest supporter from the very first interest meeting before CCT was even formally launched. Coach will have an honorary seat at each one of our performances of this show and our cast and creative team know he will be watching with us from Heaven and look forward for performing in his memory.”
