COLONY, Ala. – Cullman County Hazmat and multiple fire departments responded to the Colony Exxon around 9:00 p.m. where a gas pump had caught fire and had reached a pickup truck.

According to Cullman County Hazmat Chief Jeremy Simmons, they secured the drains from hazardous run off from the gas pump when a deputy on scene advised them there had been a pedestrian stuck in the area of the 291 mile marker.

“Myself and a Dodge City unit went to attempt to locate the pedestrian,” Simmons said. “We made contact with the vehicle that struck the pedestrian and the deputy who was with us said the pedestrian had been located approximately 100 yards from our location. We then made contact and it was confirmed the pedestrian was deceased.”

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the pedestrian as Jasper Woods, 50, of Waynesville, Georgia. Woods was also identified as the driver of the pickup truck that was on fire.

The gas pump fire was contained around 10:30 p.m.

The fire is currently under investigation and more information will be reported once it becomes readily available.
