ARLEY, Ala. – Meek High School has been officially recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school was presented with a 2020 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award on Dec. 3 at the Blue Ribbon School awards located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in Florida. Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence grants awards to schools which meet excellent standards in nine performance categories:

- Technology Integration
- Professional Community
- Leadership and Educational Vitality
- School, Family and Community Partnerships
- Indicators of Success
The BRSE Program is a comprehensive school self-assessment experience utilizing the “Blueprint for Excellence” with guidance and support from Blue Ribbon Recognized School Educators. Schools perform a comprehensive self-assessment followed by a visit from the BRSE team who validates the assessment. The results are then analyzed by the schools’ leadership team and the BRSE team to develop an action plan to meet the needs of the school.
Meek Special Education Teacher Randole Stone said that the school did parent, teacher and student surveys for the assessment, as well as provided evidence of student leadership. BRSE recommended that the school continuously reaches out to the community so that parents are informed. Stone said, “We started using our Facebook, Instagram and our Twitter account to try to get parents and community members up to date on events that we are having.”
Winston County Schools Superintendent Greg Pendley, Secondary Curriculum Director Marla Murrah, and Randole Stone were present at the awards.
