CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. – The East Cullman Baptist Association is preparing to hold their annual Christmas Backpacks Mission Project for the 2021 holiday season. This is a donation event designed to provide children in Cullman County with toys, clothes, food and hygiene products, while also sharing the Christmas Story across the community.
The zippered backpacks and packed gifts should be NEW items and should each include a copy of the Christmas Story, which are available for pickup at the ECBA Ministry Resource Center. The following is a list of suggested items to be included in the backpacks:
- Toys (at least 1 item) – Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, yo-yos, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, Frisbees, card games, small toys that light up or make noise (extra batteries included)
- Hygiene Items (at least 2 items) – Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (boxed and in plastic bag), shampoo (in plastic bag), hairbrush, hair clips, washcloths, etc.
- Food (at least two items) – Canned food with pop tops (no plastic containers), protein bars, hard candy (NO chocolate), lollipops, mints, gum, etc.
- Other (at least two items) – Children’s or teen’s Bibles, age-appropriate Christian books, sunglasses, toy jewelry, watches or flashlights (extra batteries). The ECBA asks that a Bible be included in each backpack.
Additional ideas for older kids (11-17) are lip gloss, jewelry, scarfs, journals, socks, LEGOS, NERF footballs or feminine hygiene products.
Two ribbons are to be attached to each backpack to indicate age and gender, and can be picked up at the ECBA Ministry Resource Center, and they ask that only their ribbons be used. The color key to use is:
Gender Age Green – Ages 8-10
Blue – Boy Purple – Ages 2-3 Red – Ages 11-14
Pink – Girl Yellow – Ages 4-7 White – Ages 15-17
The collection dates for the backpacks are Sat. and Sun., Dec. 8 – 9 at the ECBA Ministry Resource Center (341 AL Hwy 157). For more information about this project, call 256-737-9918.
