Melody “Mel” Ruth Segars passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021.
Mel was born in Riley, Kansas on August 26, 1963. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 33 years: Greg and her loving father and mother-in-law: Willard and Vetrel Segars.
Mel leaves behind her daughter: Ashley (Jason) Hicks and her son: Jason Segars.
She is also survived by her sisters: Valerie Brothers, Fairy Keeton, Kandie Brothers, Vickie (Scott) Demers; her nieces and nephew: Emily Brothers, Symphony Keeton, Sydney Demers, Caroline Demers Nikolas Brothers, as well as a host of extended family, church family and friends.
Mel was a gifted pianist and enjoyed playing any type of music that she could find. One of her greatest honors was to be the pianist at Joppa Church of God for over 15 years.
Mel was also proud to be a registered nurse for more than 30 years, and truly loved helping others when they were in need.
Perhaps, her greatest role in life was that of getting to be “Mimi” to her dear niece Emily Ruth Chandler Brothers. They were best of friends. The joy that was shown on both of their faces every time they saw each other could be felt by anyone else who was around in those moments. It was a bond like no other.
Mel’s celebration of life service will be held at Joppa Church of God on November 18,2021 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Mel will then be laid to rest next to her husband at Etha Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ms. Judy Pilkington, Mel’s dearest friend and sister in the Lord, for her constant love, compassion and companionship she provided to Mel in the past few weeks following Greg’s unexpected passing. Ms. Judy will forever hold a special place with the family, and they will be forever grateful.
Mel’s children would also like to thank the Cullman Regional staff, and most significantly Ms. Rachel of the Palliative Care Team for ensure that Mel’s passed away with dignity and comfort, and for providing such excellent support to Ashley and Jason during her stay.
