PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Lady Eagles capture back to back 2A State Championships; Parris, Edgeworth earn individual titles

MOULTON, Ala. – The AHSAA State Cross Country Championships were held at the Oakville Indian Mounds in Moulton Saturday morning and for the second straight year, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles left with a blue map. The Lady Eagles dominated this year’s 1A-2A competition, outpacing Bayshore Christian by 37 points to win their third state championship in four years. Reagan Parris claimed a state crown of her own, placing first with a time of 19:51.85. Finishing just behind her in second and third were her teammates Macie Huffstutler (19:54.91) and Paizley Whitlow (20:04.51). Claire Huffstutler earned a ninth-place finish with a time of 20:53.55.

The Eagles brought home some hardware in the 1A-2A Boy’s race as well. Ethan Edgeworth finished first to claim this year’s individual championship with a time of 15:53.67 and helped lead Cold Springs to a second-place finish in the 1A-2A race just behind Bayshore Christian. Jayden Allred placed fifth after posting a 17:09.13 and Justin Caffee finished 12th with a time of 17:43.54.

In other local action, the Cullman Bearcats earned a fourth-place finish in this year’s 6A Boy’s race thanks in large part to performances from Troy Adkison and Andure Barnett. Adkison and Barnett placed 11th and 14th respectively with times of 16:03.46 and 16:12.69. Holly Pond and St. Bernard finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 3A Boy’s race. The Broncos were led by Travis Barnett (16:48.05) and Christopher Putman (16:51.86) who placed fifth and sixth respectively.
