HOLLY POND, Ala. – After hammering Sardis last week, the Fairview Aggies made the quick trip over to Holly Pond to take on their county rivals Friday night and put points on the board early and often. The Aggies led the way 50-0 by the halftime break and cruised to a dominant, 57-16 win over the Broncos to cap off the regular season.

Holly Pond received the opening kickoff but went three and out after senior Ethan Bice got a big sack on third down. After a short punt senior quarterback Parker Martin dropped back and scrambled away from the rush taking it in for six before a holding penalty brought it back. Just a few plays later however he’d find Jameson Goble for a 4-yard touchdown pass to put the Aggies on top 7-0 after the Elijah Guyton extra point.

Another quick three and out later Martin would block a punt that led to a 6-yard Eli Frost touchdown run. Holly Pond would put together a promising drive that ultimately ended with a turnover on downs. Just a few plays later Martin would find his favorite target, Goble, once again for a touchdown, this time from 17 yards out.

Up 21-0 with just a few seconds left in the first quarter Frost took a handoff and broke tackle after tackle before taking it 44 yards for the score. The following kickoff was muffed and moments later Frost would find the endzone for the third time on the time for a 13-yard score for a 36-0 lead after Martin converted a fake extra point attempt on a 3-yard run. Frost’s night would come to an end with 94 yards and three touchdowns on just five carries.

Holly Pond fumbled again just a few plays later and senior running back Tyler Simmons went 20 yards for a touchdown, but unfortunately it was taken off the scoreboard due to another holding call. Simmons wouldn’t be denied taking the next three handoffs before punching the last off from a yard out.

Up 43-0 early in the second quarter Bice went back to work on the last series for the Aggie starters grabbing another sack and a big tackle for loss. Just before the half senior Tristin Holmes added one more first half touchdown to give Fairview the 50-0 half time lead.

The second half provided a few sparks as Goble took the opening kickoff, an onside kick attempt, 55 yards to the house for Fairview’s final score of the night. Goble, who has had a breakout season, ended the night with three total touchdowns.

To end the Broncos season on a high note, quarterback Landon Perkins found Sawyer Olinger for two touchdowns (16 and 37 yards), as well as a two-point conversion. Perkins would take the second two-point conversion in himself giving a 57-16 final.

Fairview’s Goble has become the go to target for Martin this season. Goble had this to say on his growth and impact throughout the season, “I found myself in this spot in spring training and I have just worked really hard on making sure I was learning to run crisp routes. I work on my hand eye coordination all the time catching tennis balls off the wall.”

Bice has been a major contributor on both sides of the ball all season and when asked about what the focus will be going into next week he said, “We just need to play fast. Farifield is a really good team, so we are looking forward to next week.”

Fairview Head Coach George Redding added this on the upcoming playoff game, “At this point in the season it’s about doing what you do well. Fairfield is a big and fast team, but we are going to focus on what we can control. It all comes down to this and we’re excited to take on the challenge.”

Fairview finishes the regular season 9-1 with the win and the Aggies will be back home next week to host Fairfield in the opening round of the 5A State Playoffs. The Broncos finish the season 3-7 in Mark Cornelius’ first season as head coach and they’ll go into the offseason with goals of bouncing back and adding more wins next season.
