SECTION, Ala. – Hanceville hit the road to take on Section Friday night and after building an early lead, the Lions were able to hold off a late run from the Bulldogs and defeat Hanceville 24-14.
Section scored early to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and found the end zone again later in the period to make it a 14-0 game at the start of the second. Hanceville was able to put together a scoring drive and cut the lead to 14-6 midway through the second quarter, but the Lions tacked on another touchdown just before the half to take a 21-6 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Bulldogs were able to get back on the board late in the third quarter and convert a two-point conversion to trim the lead to 21-14 going into the fourth. However, after a mostly scoreless fourth quarter, Section kicked through a field goal late in the game to extend its lead to 24-14 and Hanceville couldn’t get any closer than that, falling on the road 24-14.
The Bulldogs drop to 2-7 with the loss and will be back home next week to take on Elkmont in the season finale.
