HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After defeating Decatur at home last week, the Cullman Bearcats were on the road Friday night to take on Columbia in another important regional clash. The ‘Cats put a lot of points on the board early to put things out of reach and with the clock running in the second half, Cullman went on to beat the Eagles 42-8 and improve to 6-2 on the year.
Jamar Kay got things started with a 35-yard touchdown run that made it 7-0 early in the first quarter and Noah Kee followed him with a 19-yard scoring run of his own to make it 14-0. Jake Dueland was the next Bearcat to break free and he scored from 33 yards out to stretch the lead to 21-0 with just over five minutes to play in the opening quarter. The ‘Cats quickly got the ball back and added to their lead to 28-0 when quarterback Ryan Skinner hit Tripp Gudger 15 yards down field in the end zone for another touchdown.
Patrick Adcock’s 15-yard touchdown run made it a 35-0 game early in the second quarter and before we reached halftime, Preston Gray punched one in from 15 yards out to give Cullman a 42-0 advantage with three minutes to play in the first half. Columbia got loose for a 45-yard touchdown run just before the half and cut the lead to 42-8 after the two-point conversion but with the hot clock running in the second half, the Eagles couldn’t chip away at the lead any more than that and the Bearcats held on to collect a 42-8 win.
Cullman improves to 6-2 with the win and will be back home next week for a massive region game against Athens.
