MIDFIELD, Ala. – The Cold Springs Eagles returned home for this week’s regional matchup against the Midfield Patriots but unfortunately for the home crowd, the Patriots showed up and found their rhythm early. The score was tied at 8 late in the first quarter but Midfield was able to pull away in the second quarter and second half to defeat the Eagles 70-8.
An early touchdown gave Midfield an 8-0 lead right out of the gate, but Cold Springs responded on the ensuing possession. Hank Harrison capped off an Eagles scoring drive with a touchdown of his own and after a successful two-point conversion, the game was tied up at 8 with just under five minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Patriots answered just a few plays later and found the end zone to move back in front 16-8 going into the second quarter.
Midfield began to pull away in the second, scoring a pair of quick touchdowns to make it a 32-8 game midway through the period. The Patriots were able to get on the board two more times before the break and the Eagles went into the locker room trailing 44-8 at halftime.
Midfield continued to add to its lead in the second half, scoring two more touchdowns early in the third to extend its lead over Cold Springs to 56-8. The Patriots were able to put another score on the board before the end of the third quarter and found the end zone one more time in the fourth to wrap up a 70-8 win over the Eagles.
Cold Springs falls to 0-7 with the loss and will try to bounce back next week at home against Winston County.
