WINFIELD, Ala. — The Vinemont Eagles traveled to take on the Winfield Pirates in a region matchup Friday night but unfortunately for Eagles fans, The Pirates came away victorious 41-8 on homecoming.
Winfield received the opening kickoff and after allowing one first down, the Eagles’ defense stepped up to force a punt. Seven plays later, Brody Speer put the Eagles up 8-0 with a 32-yard touchdown with 6:55 remaining in the opening quarter. The Pirates returned the ensuing kickoff all the way down to the Vinemont 6-yard line and scored on the first play of the possession to tie the ballgame at 8 with 6:31 remaining until the second quarter.
On Vinemont’s next possession, a fumble led directly to a Pirate touchdown and with 6:13 remaining in the opening quarter, the Pirates gained a 15-8 lead. Early in the second quarter, Winfield added to its lead with a long touchdown run to make the score 21-8. The Pirates tacked on 20 more points in the quarter to make the score Winfield 41, Vinemont 8 at the halftime break. In the second half both teams struggled to find any offense as neither team managed to find the endzone for the remainder of the ballgame, bringing the final score to 41-8 Winfield.
Vinemont falls to 2-4 with the loss and will be back on the road next week to take on Susan Moore.
