Funeral services for Felton Sams, 81, of Cullman will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Bible Based Church Cemetery.
Felton was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church for 30 years where he served in many capacities, including song chairman, deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He later joined Old Time Way Baptist Church.
He was a lifelong resident of Cullman. In his early years, he worked for Earl’s Body Shop for 20 + years and then he operated his own body shop at his home. He was a prominent businessman in Cullman having owned Sams Good Used Cars with his son Danny for several years and later, formed Felton Sams Used Cars.
Felton was a gifted musician, playing the guitar, piano, bass and steel guitar. He and his first wife, Frances, sang together in the Sams Family and New Dawn Group. He recorded several songs with Jimmy Barbee and The Hard Times.
He loved restoring cars, music, camping in the mountains, but most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Noah and Opal Sams; two brothers: Melvin Sams and James Sams; one sister: Ruth Sams Henry and the love of his life and mother of his children: Frances.
He is survived by his wife of eight years: Mary Ann Sams; one son: Danny Sams (Evelyn) of Hanceville; three daughters: Teresa Daniel (Gary) of Cullman, Cindy Taylor (Johnny) of Cullman and Angie Bentley (Bobby) of Reynolds, GA; stepsons: DeWayne (Theresa) Burney of Cullman and Jason (Tracy) Burney of Cullman; stepdaughter: Julie (Steve) Sharpton of Cullman; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, 21 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren and three great-great step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
