CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. – Work-based learning opportunities are real-time educational strategies that provide students with genuine work experience. With these opportunities, students can apply academic and technical skills while developing their employability.

Cullman County Schools’ Work Based Learning Coordinator Haynes Riddle currently has over 200 students this year that are completely up to date on credits and are part of the Work Based Learning Program offered by Cullman County Schools.

While these students have had no issue finding their occupations, there is always room for new businesses or employers who would like to get involved. Work based learning benefits all parties involved by providing positive experiences for both the student and employer.

The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development published a paper by researcher Viktoria Kis on work-based learning design and management for productivity gains, (https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org) stating, “Ensuring that the design of work-based learning schemes balances the interests of both employer and trainee is key to successful implementation. Carefully organizing what trainees do while in the workplace and integrating learning into productive work can yield higher benefits for firms, while maintaining the quality of learning.”

For local employers or businesses interested in partnering with Cullman County Schools in their Work-Based Learning program, please contact Coordinator Haynes Riddle at hriddle@ccboe.org with the following information:

  • Employer name,
  • Position to be hired,
  • Skills needed,
  • Age requirement,
  • Expected schedule,

  • Any additional benefits.

Riddle shared, “Business and Industry in and around Cullman County has grown significantly in recent years. With that growth comes a challenge to fill the workforce for our area. We want to be sure that we are going above and beyond to prepare our students for employment and be sure they are made aware of all career opportunities that we have in Cullman.”
