Cullman, Ala. — Cullman Regional welcomes Endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Specialist, Lakshmi Kannan, MD, to the Cullman Regional Medical Group. Dr. Kannan completed her medical degree at Thanjavur Medical College, and later, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went on to complete her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As an endocrinologist, Dr. Kannan specializes in treating hormonal diseases. Dr. Kannan treats patients ages 18 and older for conditions such as:

- Calcium disorders/parathyroid disorders
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Endocrine Hypertension
- Medical management of obesity

Utiger Award” and “Bradley Award for Outstanding Research” (2017) from the University of Pennsylvania and the “Candidate of the Year Award” (2019) from the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Kannan enjoys cooking, dancing, singing and spending time outdoors with her husband and two daughters.
