VINEMONT, Ala. – The Town of South Vinemont passed their FY2022 budget Tuesday evening of $598,534.21. The town projects revenues to be $600,885.81. The budget passed unanimously.
During the work session meeting, the council discussed each council member having an assigned area of focus. One member would be assigned to oversee the finances, and everyone agreed that council member Sonya Copeland had earned that honor.
Mayor Radginal Dodson said to Copeland, “By the way, you got that job! You deserve that job.” Copeland said in the playful exchange, “I appreciate that.” In a continued sign of council unity in South Vinemont the council laughed together and brought forth several ideas in which they would like to work together and would also include community involvement.
The town’s 2020 audit has been completed by Larry Cooke CPA. Mayor Dodson said of the audit, “The audit is absolutely clean.” Cooke is expected to attend the October meeting to review the audit with the council.
Improvements continue to be made at the town’s walking trails and disc golf course. New baskets have been installed and the council has a community workday planned for next Friday to plant shrubs and other plants around the course. Councilmember Chris Thompson has a meeting scheduled in December with a leader of Alabama’s disc golf enthusiasts to receive instruction on how to facilitate tournaments.
The council also approved the following items:
- Pay the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation bill of $20,174 in three installments
- Resolution 2021-09-01 to surplus eight disc golf baskets
- Mayor and Council to attend Municipal Leadership Institute
- Town Clerk to attend Alabama Municipal Clerk Winter Conference
The Town of South Vinemont meets on the second Tuesday each month at 6:00 p.m. inside the town hall. A work session is held prior to each meeting at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
