CULLMAN, Ala. – Calling all green thumbs! House Plant Collective has announced a plant-loving pop-up in Cullman on Sept. 18, with their Plant Bus. The pop-up will be hosted by Dreher’s Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, located at 216 First Avenue SE, from 3-6 p.m.

House Plant Collective owner Jessica Watts told The Tribune, “House Plant Collective was started in 2020 as a home-based passion project. I had the dream, and planned in 2019, and just before launching the business, COVID hit. After starting by selling online, House Plant Collective shifted from pop-up events in the business into our first brick and mortar location in the Avondale Neighborhood of Birmingham, and recently opened our second location in downtown Tuscaloosa in July 2021.”

Dreher’s co-owner Christine Chamblee also spoke on how hosting the event came about, sharing, “Plants being one of my hobbies, and a lot of my staff are being into plants, we thought it would be a fun thing to go check out, so we made the trip together. We got to see the store and the Plant Bus, and it looked like a lot of fun.”

Chamblee continued, “They [House Plant Collective] made a post saying they were looking for different locations to have pop-up shops, and so I just reached out to them. –We always like to do fun, different, new events that Cullman does not typically have. So, yeah, I reached out to them, and they said they would love to come here.”

There will be plant-themed cocktails at Dreher’s to keep the theme throughout the event, such as Prickly Pear Margarita, Cool as a Cucumber and more. With some employees contributing different plants, flowers and accessories of their own, the speakeasy-style restaurant will take on homegrown touches of greenhouse flair.

Watts shared a bit about the Plant Bus’s mission, saying, “House Plant Collective is [both] a mobile plant shop in a converted school bus, and a house plant store, located in the Avondale area of Birmingham and downtown Tuscaloosa, offering a variety of tropical house plants and botanical goods. At House Plant Collective, our mission is to connect a community of plant enthusiasts and provide the education you need for your plants to thrive. Whether you are new to the plant world, or consider yourself a plant expert, House Plant Collective is here to find the perfect fit for you.”
