ARLEY, Ala. – After dropping a nail-biter in double overtime at Winston County last week, Meek returned home Friday night to open up region play against the Tigers of Brilliant. Meek dropped last year’s meeting with Brilliant 55-30, but this year was a different story. The Tigers in black and orange got points on the board early to get in front of Brilliant and pulled away to collect their first region win of the season 46-26.
A pair of touchdowns gave Meek an early, 14-0 lead in the opening quarter and the Tigers found the endzone two more times in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 30-0 at one point. Brilliant was able to get on the board late in the second quarter and make it a 30-8 game going into the halftime break.
Meek punched another one into the endzone midway through the third to pull ahead 38-8 and managed to stretch the lead to 46-8 late in the third quarter. Brilliant had some success getting points on the board in the final frame and cut into the lead but it was too little, too late and Meek held on to defeat Brilliant 46-26, earning its first region win of the season in the process.
Meek improves to 2-1 on the season with the win and will try to keep it going next week when the Tigers travel to South Lamar.
