VINEMONT, Ala. — An injury plagued Vinemont Eagles team hosted the JB Pennington Tigers to open region play Friday night and unfortunately for Eagles fans, Pennington handed the Eagles a 49-6 loss.
The Eagles held tough in the first quarter forcing a punt and a turnover on downs, but on the first play of the second quarter Pennington defense forced a fumble and took it to the endzone putting the Tigers up 7-0 with 11:47 remaining until halftime. Vinemont fumbled the ball away on their next possessions ultimately resulting in a touchdown pass to put the Tigers up 14-0 with 7:02 remaining in the first half.
The next Eagles possession didn’t get any better as Pennington blocked a punt resulting in a 21-0 led for the Tigers with 5:03 remaining until halftime. On the next play the turnover bug bit the Eagles once again, and once again Pennington capitalized driving down and adding to the led, 28-0 with 3:30 remaining in the opening half. The Tigers added another score in the final seconds of the half, making the score 35-0 headed to the locker room.
Two plays after coming back on to the field for the second half the Tigers found the endzone to add to the lead making it 42-0. After another punt by the Eagles Pennington tacked on another score with 7:30 remaining in the third quarter to make the score 49-0. Midway through the fourth quarter Toby Hill found the endzone for the Eagles on a 4-yard run to give you the final score of Pennington 49, Vinemont 6.
The Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss and they’ll be looking to bounce back next week when they travel to Carbon Hill for another regional matchup.
