FORT PAYNE, Ala. – After dropping a tight game on the road against Guntersville last week, Arab was back on the road Friday night looking to bounce back with a region win at Fort Payne. The Knights were able to do just that, putting together a stellar defensive performance and collecting a 20-7 win over the Wildcats.
Fort Payne struck first to take an early, 7-0 lead over Arab but the Knights were able to respond. Ed Johnson connected with Spencer Strickland near the pylon to tie the game at 7 early in the second quarter and that score held going into the halftime break.
Arab added to its lead in the second half when the Knights blocked a Fort Payne punt and ran it into the endzone for a touchdown that made it a 14-7 game with just over three minutes to play in the third quarter. The 7-point lead held for most of the final period, but Ed Johnson found Wes Johnson in the endzone from 23 yards out for another passing touchdown that made it 20-7 with just under three minutes to play. Neither squad was able to find the endzone again and Arab held on to defeat the Wildcats 20-7.
The Knights improve to 2-1 on the season with the win and will be back home to host Scottsboro in another region matchup next week.
