CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman High School teacher and coach Casey Harbin has been passed the baton as Burgermeister for the 2021 Cullman Oktoberfest. With Cullman’s German heritage and history, Oktoberfest is an annual event that brings members together from all across the community with local and German-themed activities.
On the process of being chosen as Burgermeister, Harbin said, “To the best of my knowledge, you are nominated by people in the community and the nominees are then voted on by the Oktoberfest board.”
“It has been more of a fantasy than a goal!”, Harbin laughed. “My friends and I joked about being the Burgermeister for years, but I never really considered it a reality. Even in July when someone when someone said they nominated me, I responded with, ‘Haha, well thanks but I doubt that will ever happen!’ And here we sit.”
While Harbin is still waiting to get the exact details of his official duties as Burgermeister, he said, “I know I will be doing a lot of public appearances and visiting sponsors in the weeks leading up to Oktoberfest. When the actual festival starts, I will serve as a sort of Master of Ceremonies; mostly, I am there to keep things fun and entertaining for everyone!”
When speaking on the honor of being selected as this year’s Burgermeister, Harbin shared, “Being the Burgermeister means so much to me. Not only do I have the opportunity to represent my amazing family and their contributions to Oktoberfest over the years, but also to represent the incredible school system that has been such a big part of my life the last decade.”
The 2021 Cullman Oktoberfest is scheduled to take place September 30 – October 2, 2021 and will be held in Downtown Cullman at the Festhalle and County Museum, located at 211 2nd Avenue NE. Find more information at https://festivalnet.com/6815/Cullman-Alabama/Ethnic-Festivals/Cullman-Oktoberfest.
