CULLMAN, Ala. – Local author Reba Whitley has released her new book titled, ‘The Mountain Shack Mystery.’ Whitley was born and raised in Cullman and has worked in local ministry for over 30 years. When asked about her thoughts on having her book available at Yates Chance Christian Bookstore, she responded, “I am thrilled that my book is now being sold in Cullman.”

In a recent press release on the ‘The Mountain Shack Mystery’, Whitley shares, “The Great Bear Mountains of Tennessee are mysterious and wonderful. For everyone who lives on this glorious mountain range, with acres of giant, beautiful trees, their families have been there for hundreds of years. The only newcomers are the ones recently born on the mountain, or those who have been approved for very short vacation visits. That’s the way the mountain people wanted it. Only five families started out on this mountain, and those five families have grown into over two thousand citizens living there. They fought long and hard to have the right to choose who comes and goes on their mountain.”

Whitley continued, “Something very strange was discovered while Jodi O’Connor was visiting her family on Bear Mountain. No one there had experienced anything like it before, and they hoped to never come across anything like it again! The peaceful mountain had become scary and unknown. How could something so awful, so cruel happen right under their nose? This was one time the people of the mountain agreed that they needed and welcomed outsiders to come and stay as long as necessary to deal with this horrible nightmare that had come to their beautiful, peaceful mountain.”

Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Whitley’s new book gives readers a chilling tale as terror arises and questions begin to surround Tennessee’s mountain range. With families living here throughout generations, this sudden chaos is a surprise to the majority. Join Jodi as she takes part in the uncovering of this crime.

Whitley shared, “I wrote the story just to prove a point to my husband. Sometimes at night, I do not sleep very well. I am more of a night owl. So, I try to get [my husband] Mark to make up a story because listening to his voice keeps my thoughts from rambling around in my head, and I can drift off to sleep. To which Mark always says, ‘You know I can’t make up stories.’ So, I start a story and tell him to add to it. One night in particular, I started a story like this… ‘One day, a group of kids started walking down a dirt road through the woods to go fishing. They noticed an old shack deep in the woods and went to investigate. Once they were inside the shack, they heard scratching noises and saw drops of blood…’, Then I told Mark to add to that, to which he added, ‘I can’t add anything to that!’ Then I said, ‘Are you serious? I could write a whole book about that!’ And so, I did.”

Originally, the book was not to be published and meant only for Whitley’s husband and daughter, but for the next five years, the two of them insisted that she get it published. Finally, last September, Whitley agreed, sent the book to her publisher and the rest is history.

When asked about the possibility of upcoming projects or future novels, Whitley simply assured that there is something “absolutely in the works.”

Besides Yates Chance Christian Bookstore, “The Mountain Shack Mystery” can also be purchased from the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
