CULLMAN, Ala. – The former mayor of Baileyton who lost his seat as the incumbent in the 2020 race was arrested for five Grand Jury warrants on Tuesday.

According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Johnny Brant Dyar, 78, of Baileyton was arrested by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office earlier today.

His charges included:

  • Public Order crimes,
  • Use of official position or office for personal gain,
  • three Grand Jury counts,
  • GJ warrant AL State Code 17-5-12 for ‘No political paid ad’ and
  • GJ warrant AL State Code 17-5-13 for ‘No ID printed cam.’

Cullman County District Attorney Wilson Blaylock said the charges were initiated through a complaint filed by a local resident.

“A complaint was filed with the Ethics Commission by a Cullman resident against Mr. Dyar,” Blaylock said. “The case was presented to the grand jury and they found probable cause that Mr. Dyar used his office of Mayor of Baileyton for personal gain.”

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
