FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The last couple of years have been a great time to be a fan of Aggie football and the excitement and expectations are as high as ever this season. Fairview has put together a combined record of 19-5 since 2019 but the Aggies are focused on making this year the best yet. With experience returning on both sides of the ball, including All-State Safety and Quarterback Parker Martin, Fairview is primed for another playoff run in 2021. The Aggies have been hard at work this offseason in preparation for the upcoming year and Head Coach George Redding is pleased with some of the steps his team took this summer.

“The summer was good. We had great participation, good work ethic and I felt like the energy was high most days. Overall, I was very pleased with the summer as a whole,” Redding said. “I thought we made some strides in the weight room and got a lot of young guys in there too, so we made some big strides with those guys in the weight room as well.”

After a very limited offseason program last summer, Redding and his team were excited to get back to a routine they’re used to and compete with other teams.

“It made things feel so much more normal because that’s more of what we’re accustomed to, so our guys were excited about that,” Redding said. “They were even asking about that back during the spring, so it was great to get back to that and get the chance to throw the ball around and compete against other teams. We got to see several teams and coaches that we didn’t see last year so we really enjoyed it.”

The Aggies have as much experience returning to the field as any team in the county this fall, and Redding and his staff are excited to see what this group can do with another season under their belts.

“We have seven starters returning on both sides of the ball which is good. Our interior offensive line from guard to guard is back. Ethan Bice, Tyde Bagwell and Carson Jennings are all coming back. We have Dalton Payne, our H-Back, coming back and Tyler Simmons, one of our running backs and Eli Frost, another running back, back as well. Parker Martin, our quarterback is back, and Bryson Chamness is back as our Z receiver,” Redding said. “A lot of those guys play on the defensive side as well, so we’re excited about all those returning guys. We do have some positions that we definitely need to fill, and the biggest thing is finding the guys to fill those but also to get them reps working together so that group can start to gel, and work off one another.”

Fairview has put together an impressive 19-5 record over the last two seasons so most of the Aggies on this year’s team have experience playing in big games and winning them. Confidence shouldn’t be an issue for Fairview this fall but Redding wants to make sure the focus remains on the core principles of the program and not letting your own expectations get the better of you.

“I think that’s something you have to deal with in all areas of your life. I think the biggest thing is keeping the focus on what’s always been important for us. What’s important for us is showing up to work every day and working at a high level. Trying to serve others with great character and just being who we’re supposed to be. I know that sounds crazy because none of that had anything to do with football, but it carries over to that,” Redding said. “Consistency is very important to us, and we want to continue to do that, and we feel like if we can, it gives us an opportunity to be competitive and gives us a chance on Friday nights. I’m not sure what this season holds for us, but I do like the work ethic of this group. We’ve still got a long way to go but we’re really excited about them.”
