CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library on Friday, held their 2nd Annual Harry Potter Birthday Parade. Though the first parade event was held in 2019, last year was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The library has been incredibly excited about being able to host the parade again this year and all of their hard work was paid off Friday morning.

When the event’s primary organizer, Librarian Josephine Harrington, announced the start, the children lined up in their costumes behind her and marched down the sidewalk surrounding the library.

There were also themed giftbags for every child in attendance. The gift bags were filled with goodies such as an Origami Sorting Hat, a themed House coloring sheet and a wand. These wands were each handmade by Harrington, who explained the process and shared, “It is a lot of fun. Working on this and the take-and-makes and different programs. I love working in the library because I really do love the stuff I get to work on.”

After the children completed the parade, they were each given a Popsicle stick to exchange for a free shaved ice from Cha Cha’s shaved ice, who frequently attends library and other public events.

While this was the concluding event for the Cullman County Public Library’s summer programs, the winners of the summer writing contest Tales of Your Tails will be announced in mid-August. Storytime at the library will also start back during the fall season, with the official dates to be announced soon. Happy birthday, Harry Potter, and a huge thanks to the Cullman County Public Library for an amazing summer!
