CULLMAN, Ala. – The Alabama Association for Career Technical Education on Monday named Cullman Area Technology Academy Principal Billy Troutman its 2021 Administrator of the Year award. According to the National Association for Career Technical Education, the award is given to administrators “who have demonstrated leadership in ensuring teacher and student success and have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and effective career and technical education programs.”
Following Monday’s announcement, made during ACTE’s annual summer conference, Troutman told The Tribune, “I was very excited. It’s really an honor.
“I’ve been in career tech my whole career, and so if there’s one thing I am, it’s passionate about career tech education. And after you spend a life in education, especially in one field like I have, it’s really cool to be recognized for something like that, really, on such a big level. Alabama’s Career Tech Administrator of the Year’s a big deal, so I’m pretty excited about that. That’s a very nice honor. I’m thankful. Very humbling.”
Cullman County School Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette said, “I am so excited and proud for Mr. Troutman being awarded the ALACTE Administrator of the Year. He is an excellent ambassador for everything career tech. This is great recognition for our CTE programs and the entire Cullman County School District.”
CATA’s physical plant has undergone numerous renovations over the summer break, and Troutman said that he looks forward to showing off facilities that match the quality of the school’s programs when students return in August.
