CULLMAN, Ala. – While many are probably familiar with the bookstore that resides on the corner of 207 3rd St SW, what may yet be unfamiliar is its recent change in ownership and, as a result, a name swap from the well-known Deb’s Bookstore to the brand-new Camelot Books and Comics. Owner Greg Patterson took over the location in August of 2019 and has been supplying the community with literature ever since.

“I kept everything the same with the books and added comics and games in order to fill a void that I saw here in Cullman County,” shared Patterson, “When I bought the store, there was Valhalla, but it closed shortly thereafter. To my knowledge, there was nothing else.”

Patterson is a huge comic fan and says that he opened the store in an admittedly slightly selfish sense so that he would have a place for comics and games and would further allow others to find a place there as well. Camelot Books and Comics also sells all the books on the Cullman City and County Required Reading Lists, and has an entire wall dedicated strictly to stocking the literature on those lists.

Camelot also offers many varieties of genres such as Historical Fiction, Western, Romance, Cooking and Crafts, Inspirational Fiction, Science Fiction and Fantasy. They also have a large sale room with a continually running special of five paperback books for $1 or 25 cents each, along with hardback books going for $1 each, with all other books priced as marked.

“We just try to have fun,” concluded Patterson. The bookstore has resided on the corner of 3rd St for 17 years and Camelot Books and Comics has no plans to go anywhere anytime soon. Next time you’re in the area, make sure to stop in for all of your literature, comic and gaming needs, and maybe even try something new!
