Cullman Regional announces Mark Christensen, M.D. as new EMS medical director

CULLMAN, Ala. — Cullman Regional is pleased to announce Mark Christensen, M.D., director of Emergency Medicine at Cullman Regional, as the new Director of Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Christensen will step into his new role on July 12.    

Dr. Christensen has been serving as director of Emergency Medicine since 2019 and was named as one of five 2020 Facility Medical Directors of the Year by Alteon Health. His years of experience include serving as emergency medicine physician, hospitalist/ER hybrid, assistant director of Emergency Medicine and associate director of Emergency Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Association State of Alabama. 

Dr. Christensen is board-certified and received his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Alabama DCH Regional Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center, where he filled the role of chief resident and ER fellow. Throughout his time in school, he also served as firefighter and EMT for 12 years at the Toney Volunteer Fire Department. 

Dr. Christensen considers himself a life-long learner and in his free time, enjoys live music and going to concerts as well as spending time with his wife and five children.
