CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday evening approved multiple measures on behalf of the city’s Maintenance Department, as well as property annexations.
City Maintenance Department contracts awarded/extended
The council approved resolutions to:
- award a bid for various types of rock to Blount Springs Materials Co. Inc. for $849,700 or $1,233,530 delivered. Vulcan Materials Company Inc. of Birmingham submitted bids of $1,208,860 and $1,678,260. C.A. Langford Company Inc. of Guntersville was invited but did not submit a bid.
- award a bid for Super Duty Trucks to Schultz Motors Inc. for $48,000 per truck
- extend an existing bid for concrete finishing with Ortiz Concrete through June 22, 2022
- extend an existing bid for plumbing services with Dulaney Plumbing Inc. through June 8, 2022
- extend an existing bid for electrical services with K & M Electrical Contractors LLC through June 8, 2022
The council also approved a resolution to provide an interpretation for the building code term “structures” in the Code of Ordinances, since the existing definition was considered vague. The approved definition includes “tangible property such as, but not limited to, retaining walls, fences, patios, pergolas and large outdoor fireplaces, excluding portable firepits.”
Annexations
The council suspended it regular rules of procedure to act on the first readings of three annexation requests:
- to annex 975 County Road 623 as an R-2 residential district
- to annex 452 County Road 1333 as an R-1 residential district
- to annex portions of properties located in Lot 17 of Magic Farms, 2027 Co Rd 1319, Co Rd 1420 and Co Rd 1422 as an AG-1 agricultural district
All three annexations previously received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission.
Cullman Middle School football pep rally scheduled
The council approved a special event request from Laci Schuman for a parent-hosted pep rally/jamboree for Cullman Middle School’s football season kick-off in the Warehouse District block of 1st Ave. NE, from Flavors Bakery to Lavish Boutique, on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Public hearings set
The council set a public hearing to be held during its Aug. 9, 2021 meeting for an ordinance to amend Zoning Ordinance 2021-20 to decrease parking spaces from 20 feet in length to 18 feet in length. The 20-foot length was an oversight in the original ordinance.
The council set a public hearing to be held during its Aug. 23, 2021 meeting for an ordinance to vacate an unimproved right of way behind 605 St. Joseph Dr. NW.
The Cullman City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the City Hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
