CULLMAN, Ala. – The Dodge City Town Council on Thursday evening voted to pay off a USDA loan taken in 2007 to improve its sewer system. The council used reserve funds to retire the debt, scheduled to be completed on Jan. 1, 2043, 21 years early. The move will leave the town debt free.

“I am elated to get it paid off,” said Mayor Tawana Canada. “We are completely out of debt at this time.”

The council voted to install Sprout internet service at Town Hall and seek cancellation of its recently opened contract with AT&T, following a week without internet service. According to Canada, AT&T was supposed to have come last Thursday to fix the problem, but has yet to do so. After a review of the AT&T bill, which includes $30 per month for technical support, Councilman Jason Burney suggested, “We ought to get our money back on tech support.”

Canada informed the council that a recent inspection of the town’s sewer system showed that “Everything’s great,” and that planned road work around town has been delayed by weather.

The council scheduled a work session for the 2022 budget at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 15.

The Dodge City Town Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Dodge City Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
