CULLMAN, Ala. – After the 2020 hiatus, Cullman Community Theatre returns later this month with a production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway classic “Hello, Dolly!”

Licensing agency Concord Theatricals said that the show “bursts with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theater history. The romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and ‘woman who arranges things,’ are certain to thrill and entertain audiences again and again. The show’s unforgettable songs include ‘Put On Your Sunday Clothes,’ ‘Ribbons Down My Back,’ ‘Before the Parade Passes By,’ ‘Hello, Dolly!,’ ‘Elegance’ and ‘It Only Takes a Moment.’”

Cullman Community Theatre production director Noah Carpenter told The Tribune, “This is, number one, our best cast we’ve ever had — for community theater, especially — the biggest cast we’ve ever had. And I would hazard to say that we are far beyond where we’ve ever been at this point. We’re running through this thing like wildfire. And it just goes to show how excited everybody is to be back onstage, to be back with the community theater.

“We would normally start full run-throughs next week, the week before the show, and we’ve started full run-throughs already this week. So we are doing incredibly well.

“A lot of that also has to do with East Elementary. They’ve allowed us to use their facility, which has given us a little more room to spread out, and we’ve been able to work on a lot more at a time where, in the past, each night was kind of focused on one scene or one set of scenes. We can split up–we can do this scene’s music, this scene’s choreography, this scene’s blocking. We can work on anywhere from three to six scenes a night since we’ve had that space to utilize in this show. So it’s been a huge help, to help get us ready for what is normally an 8-12 week production process, for us doing it in six weeks.”
