ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – After a weekend of rain, the sun finally came out as Drinkard Development broke ground Tuesday afternoon of what will become Albertville’s first movie theatre. Everyone in attendance was incredibly excited about how this will benefit citizens in Albertville, as well as the surrounding area. The development site of this beautifully updated, new theatre is located at 3561 US Hwy 431 S.

This is an incredible addition for Albertville, as the nearest movie-viewing location currently is the Boaz Nine. The Boaz Nine was built along with a surge of outlet malls in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and while it held to standard and popularity for a long time, locals in and around the area have longed for something new since the outlet malls closure and demolition.

The theatre is expected to be completed in April of 2022 and will feature 10 screens in the new facility.

David Patterson of People’s Bank commented on his faith in the project and recalled a conversation in previous years he had with developer Jason Grimmett, stating, “Every bank had said no to this. Mainly, because it was just too big and too outside of their realm. I said, ‘It’s easy to say no.’” He has stayed committed to this project ever since.

Roy Drinkard gave a statement to thank Mayor Tracy Honea and the Parks and Rec Board of Albertville, and to express excitement for the coming development of this wonderful theatre.

Greg Thompson, the architect on the project, spoke about the estimated timeframe of April saying, “Part of the issue is nationwide, and it is taking longer to have access to certain materials, such as steel and lumber. It is just a process.”

While revenue is an objective, of course, the ability for people to gather and be close again is bringing about a new air of enthusiasm for improvements across the board.

With additional, potential plans for a new Buffalo Wild Wings in the near future, Albertville continues to have high anticipation for the near future.
