CULLMAN, Ala. – LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will host the Annual Cullman City vs Cullman County Blood Drive June 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kami May, LifeSouth’s District Community Development Coordinator said this event is not only fun, but it is also important to the blood supply for Cullman Regional Medical Center. She says LifeSouth provides 100% of the hospital’s blood products.
“The need for blood products does not go away when the summer months arrive. That is why it is so important for donors to come out for this event to save local Cullman lives and get some awesome, free giveaways too,” May said.
A few featured giveaway items include coupons to Papa Murphy’s Pizza and Lawler’s BBQ. Donors will also receive a custom Cullman City versus Cullman County T-shirt and a hot Cattleman’s Association steak sandwich.
Darla West, Cullman County chief clerk for the Revenue Commissioner and co-chair for the upcoming blood drive, has never taken part in this event, but says she is counting down the days.
“I am looking forward to that competitive spirit that drives our County and City donors, and the steak sandwich donated by the Cullman Cattleman’s Association is a fun way to celebrate the day,” West said.
The Honorable Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs is a longtime supporter of this blood drive and enjoys when the numbers from both sides start to rise.
“My favorite part of the day is seeing the final results,” Mayor Jacobs said. “It’s always fun to find out whether the City or the County will be the “winner” each year, but the truly satisfying part is learning the total number of blood donations, because each of those donations can save up to three lives here in our community.”
May said the winner of the annual event receives bragging rights for the entire year and the satisfaction of knowing they saved local lives.
The event is open to the public and any employees with the City and the County. County supporters must visit one of the following designated locations for your favorite entity to receive credit:
- Walmart Olive Street- 626 Olive St SW, Cullman, AL 35055
- County Court House- 500 Second Ave. SW, Cullman, AL 35055
City supporters must visit one of the following LifeSouth Bloodmobile locations:
- Walmart Highway 157- 5601 AL-157, Cullman, AL 35058

“Between blood needs resulting from illnesses like cancer to injuries from motor vehicle accidents, our community relies on LifeSouth blood banks to save lives every day,” West said.
“Every day, someone in our community needs a blood transfusion,” Mayor Jacobs said. “Whether due to trauma, illnesses or chronic health conditions, blood or blood products are needed every day in Cullman County. The blood collected during this blood drive stays right here in our community.”
