Nellie Faye Dupree, age 81 of Haleyville, entered into rest on Friday, May 21, 2021 in McCalla.
Mrs. Dupree was born on February 28, 1940 in Haleyville, Alabama. She was known as “the quilt maker and seamstress” and made the most beautiful quilts, which she sold and gave away to friends and family for gifts. Nellie was a great southern cook, who taught her girls the secrets of good cooking. She was the most giving and selfless person, and the epitome of the word “granny”.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Brother Gary Victor Page will officiate. Burial will be at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville.
Nellie is survived by her children: Sheila Pickett, Rita Lewis and Susie Benefield; son-in-law: Danny Benefield; six grandchildren: Mandy (Lee) Chestnut, Trace (Nikki) Pickett, Bobby (Laura) Pickett, Casey (Lauren) Benefield, Dustin (Shelby) Benefield and Shane Lewis; six great-grandchildren: Nicole Chestnut, Alexis Chestnut, ClaraJane Pickett, Gage Pickett, Gunnar Pickett and Gentry Pickett and six step-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Dewey Wilson and Minnie McNutt Wilson; husbands: Chester Lee Riddle and Harold L. Dupree and siblings: Clora Lee Harp, Odell Wilson, Odis Wilson, Rudolph Wilson, William Wilson, Donald Wilson and Martha Jo Page.
