CULLMAN, Ala. – After defeating James Clemens 6-1 and falling to Hazel Green 5-0 earlier this week, Cullman returned home Thursday night to host its regular season finale against Jasper. After a scoreless opening frame, the Lady Bearcats pushed a run across in the second to take an early lead and tacked on two more in the third to begin pulling away and went on to defeat the Lady Vikings 3-0.

Savannah Davis led off the bottom of the second with a double into deep center field and scored on an error later in the inning to give Cullman a 1-0 lead going into the third. The Lady Bearcats added to their lead in the third when Faith Guest drove a double off the fence in left field and two pitches later, Chalea Clemmons blasted a 2-run shot over the center field fence to make it a 3-0 game going into the fourth.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Clemmons and Davis each drilled a two-out single to put a pair of runners on the base paths but a flyout ended the inning before Cullman could put any more runs on the board. Jasper threatened to score in the top of the sixth with a leadoff single and a walk but a strikeout, a line out and a ground out got the Lady Bearcats out of the jam with the lead intact. A two-out double from Brooklyn Morton gave Cullman a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth but a ground out ended the inning, and the Lady Bearcats went to the top of the seventh three outs away from a win.

A pair of walks and an error allowed Jasper to load the bases with two outs, but Clemmons was able to get the final out to keep the Lady Vikings off the board and secure a 3-0 win for the Lady Bearcats.

Emma Claire Wilson tossed five scoreless innings in the win over Jasper, allowing just two hits and striking out six batters. Clemmons pitched the final two innings to wrap up the win. Morton finished 3-for-3 at the plate in the win and Clemmons finished with two hits and two RBIs. Guest and Wilson each added hits for Cullman as well.

Cullman will be back in action Tuesday at Hartselle to face Muscle Shoals in the opening round of this year’s 6A, Area 14 Tournament.
