GOOD HOPE, Ala.- The Good Hope Sizzlin’ Seniors were joined Tuesday by Sheriff Matt Gentry and several CCSO officers. The sheriff’s office grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and delivered lunch to the senior center. It was a welcome sign of a return to normal activities disrupted by the pandemic.

“We missed this last year,” Gentry said. “We end up feeding about 3,000 people a year.” The CCSO was only able to cook out for two events last year due to the shutdown.

Gentry added, “Through the worst month, we fed the office and all the deputies three meals a day, through the worst time when everything was shut down. We had a few meals brought in, but it was mostly us cooking.”

The CCSO is able to fund the meals through a change in the food bill. He explained, “When we changed our food bill law in 2018, it still allowed us to do this kind of thing- feed the community and have meetings and feed. It’s all public funds.”

The CCSO will be providing food next Thursday, May 6 at the Crane Hill Community Meeting and at Fairview Senior Center on May 14.
