Looking to their ‘Futures’

Wallace State dancers take to stage, name award recipients

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College’s Allegro Dance Theatre returned to the stage Wednesday evening with the student-produced and choreographed show “Futures” on campus in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre, presenting a variety of styles from classical ballet to jazz and hip-hop. 

After the show, program director and WSCC instructor Brooke Desnoës told The Tribune, “I’m so proud of them. I think they did such an amazing job. And it really was great to be able to finish this kind of curious school year in a very positive way, and get them back on the stage after almost a year and a half of not being there. So I think they did a great, great job.” 

Desnoës also presented the program’s 2021 awards at the end of the show. 

Future Dance Educator – Brianna McAnnally 

“Awarded to a student who has achieved academic excellence in dance education courses.” 

Solo Award – Chloe Carter 

“Awarded to the student who has excelled in solo performance.” 

Young Artist – Marianne Willoughby 

“Awarded to one of our younger students who shows amazing potential in her technical and artistic abilities.” 

Lion Award – Morgan Smith 

“Awarded to the student who has shown unwavering commitment to the dance program over the past year.” 

Dance Achievement – Morgan Lane 

“Awarded to the student who through hard work and dedication made huge advancement in her technical abilities.” 

Dance Leadership – Lacey Johnson 

“Awarded to the student who has shown leadership in promoting Wallace State Dance.” 

Outstanding Performance – Elizabeth Griffith 

“Awarded to the student who has technically achieved in all areas of dance: Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern and choreography.” 

Outstanding Service to Wallace State Dance – Breanna Turner 

“Awarded to the student who has, over her time at Wallace State, shown overwhelming commitment to the dance program.” 

Desnoës told The Tribune previously, “All of the kids who are graduating have gotten accepted into university programs or elite training programs all over the United States, so we’re super, super proud of them. They’re going to places like American Repertory Ballet, they’re going to Florida State summer programs. They’ve been accepted to Belmont, Belhaven dance programs. I’ve got two transferring to UAB; they’ll be trying out for the Blazerettes. So I’m just really proud of the work they’ve done.”
