DECATUR, Ala. — Cullman got another spectacular pitching performance from Chalea Clemmons as she struck out 15 Decatur batters and the Lady Bearcats picked up a huge 4-1 area win on the road.

After a scoreless first inning, Cullman got on the scoreboard in the top of the second. Carlie Burnham drew a leadoff walk and then later scored on an RBI single by Faith Guest. The Lady Bearcats tacked on three more runs in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Savannah Davis and a two-run home run by Emma Claire Wilson. Decatur got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single, but Clemmons didn’t allow the Lady Red Raiders to get any closer as she racked up seven strikeouts in the final four innings, finishing with 15 for the game, and the Lady Bearcats would end up taking the game, 4-1.

Davis (RBI) and Wilson (two RBIs) each finished with a home run for Cullman (16-8). Guest added a hit and an RBI. Clemmons collected a pair of hits and Haley Shannon and Taylor Au each added a hit. The Lady Bearcats will host Muscle Shoals on Thursday.

Other Tuesday scores:

Cullman 9 – Muscle Shoals 0 (Baseball)

The Bearcats opened up area play on the road Tuesday night and they returned home with a 9-0 win. Jeb Bartle got the start on the mound for Cullman, and he earned the win as well after tossing a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits and striking out three batters. At the plate, Brennen Norton was just as impressive, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and a 2-run homer in the win.

An RBI double from Norton gave the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead in the opening frame and after three scoreless innings, Cullman began to stretch its lead in the fifth. With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Kaleb Heatherly laced a bases-clearing double into center field to make it a 4-0 game. Heatherly came around to score on an error a few pitches later and the Bearcats led the way 5-0 going into the bottom half of the fifth.

Norton’s 2-run shot built the lead up to 7-0 in the sixth and the ‘Cats added two more runs in the seventh with an RBI single from Jake Dueland and an RBI groundout from Zac Edwards. Bartle struck out two of the next three batters he faced, and Cullman went on to collect its first area win 9-0.

Holly Pond 16 – Brindlee Mountain 5 (Baseball)

Holly Pond’s Charlie Huddleston had a huge day at the plate for the Broncos as he finished with seven RBIs in Holly Pond’s 16-5 rout of Brindlee Mountain at home.

Brindlee Mountain got on the scoreboard first in the opening inning, but that would be their only lead of the game as it was all Broncos after that as they put up two runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third, with Huddleston driving home three of those four runs on a three-run double. The Lions made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth, but Holly Pond quickly pulled away in the bottom of the fourth as they pushed across six runs and they ended the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Seth Whiting RBI single and a Huddleston three-run home run.

Good Hope 7 – Hanceville 6 (Baseball)

Good Hope hosted Hanceville and the Bulldogs took a three-run lead going into the last inning, but the Raiders rallied late and a bases-loaded walk by Caleb Rusk helped Good Hope complete the 7-6 comeback win.

Good Hope cracked the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning as Lane Speegle scored on a Hanceville error, but the Bulldogs tied the game at one in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Bo Joles. Another sacrifice fly, this time by Adam Copper, gave Hanceville a 2-1 lead in the third. A Morgan Cook RBI single tied the game at two in their half of the third. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth on a Zachary Campbell RBI single and one more in the fifth as Copper scored on a Raider error. A Paydon Bagwell RBI single in the bottom of the fifth made it a one-run game, but Hanceville made it 6-3 in the top of the seventh on a Joles RBI single and a Dylan Twilley RBI groundout.

But Good Hope looked to counter in their half. They loaded the bases with two outs and Colten Whatley, Travis Brock and Lawton Farr all drew walks to tie the game at six before Rusk drew one of his own to win the game for the Raiders as they wound up taking the game, 7-6.
