BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Baileyton Volunteer Fire Department and Parkside Outreach received some help Saturday afternoon from the Town of Baileyton, with each receiving appropriations presented by Mayor Windell Calloway and the Baileyton Town Council at Baileyton Park. Each organization received checks to assist with the services they provide to members of the Baileyton community.

The Baileyton VFD received an appropriation of $10,500.

Said Calloway, “We gave them their money to help them buy equipment and other stuff for the department. By doing that, they are better equipped and that helps keep everybody’s rates down as far as fire rates on insurance. We are very happy to work with them, and we worked with them on the drive-thru for Christmas and Halloween also.”

The Town and fire department will join forces again for Day in the Park coming up June 12 at Baileyton Park.

Baileyton Fire Chief Zack McGee and several other members of the department were on-hand to receive the check from the Town. McGee said the VFD already has plans on what to purchase with the money.

He explained, “They’ve always given us $5,000 a year and what was above that, we use to buy two sets of turnout gear every year. They go out of date in about 10 years. We have about 20 people, so it works out where they all get replaced within the 10year period, so it keeps them all in date.”

The department also has a $2,500 monthly payment on a truck.

McGee added, “All monies are greatly appreciated.”

Parkside Outreach received $1,200, and Parkside Outreach Director Jennifer Harlow was all smiles after receiving the much needed funds.

“We are across from Parkside School and what we do is we have a thrift store in there and all of our sales go to purchase food for our food pantry,” she said.

In the month of February, Parkside Outreach provided 758 meals to people and families in the community.

Added Harlow, “There’s a need in the community, so we’re honored to be partnered up with the Town of Baileyton. There’s so many people in our community that need it.”
