ADDISON, Ala. — The young Lady Bulldogs of Addison hosted their arch rivals from Double Springs Thursday night and despite a solid effort from the home squad, the Lady Yellow Jackets came away with a 4-2 victory.

Addison had junior pitcher Anna Grace “The Glove” Luker on the mound and after giving up a one out single to Lady Jacket Emily “Scooter” Holt, Luker was able to get the final two outs in the inning. This would be an unusual occurrence on the night due to the fact that the Lady Jackets were able to hit very well with runners in scoring position, going 4 for 9 in those situations.

Double Springs sent their Senior pitcher Ally Blackston to the mound and she retired the Baby Bulldogs down in order.

After hold the Lady Jackets scoreless in the top of the second, Addison got a lead-off walk from Madison “Pudding” Aderholt and a sharp single to center from Lexie “Toot” Luker. A wild pitch later had runners on second and third with no one out. Blackston was able to work out of the jam while giving up no runs. The Lady Dawgs were unable to hit with runners in scoring position for most of the night as they went 2 for 13 and that would prove their downfall.

The top of the third had the Jackets starting off with a single from Izzy Cofer. “The Glove” Luker was able to get the next two ladies out, then a two-out triple from Emily Holt scored Cofer giving the Lady Jackets the 1-0 lead. Junior Madison Comeens doubled bringing home Holt for a 2-0 lead.

The bottom of the third inning had the Lady Dawgs leaving two more girls on base. Macayla Wilkins had singled and “The Glove” Luker singled but both were stranded.

The Lady Jackets were able to plate an unearned run in the top of the 5th as Holt singled, stole second and then scored on an error giving the Jackets a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Jackets scored their final run on a lead-off double by Makayla Lindsey, which was followed by a run scoring single from Kaygen Grace. This put the Jackets up 4-0 and the lead seemed safe.

The Lady Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the sixth. “Pudding” Aderholt was hit in the foot by a pitch, two outs later, Saige Carter was on third, Lydia “Barbie” Ergle singled and Karley Early singled loading the bases with two outs. Haley Walker was hit by a pitch and that scored Carter cutting the score to 4-1. The Dawgs left the bases loaded as Wilkins was robbed on a beautiful over the shoulder catch by the Lady Jacket shortstop.

After holding the Jackets scoreless in the top of the seventh, Addison didn’t go down without a fight. “Glove” Luker doubled and that was followed by a “Racey” Dacey Baker shot to left that rolled to the fence, scoring Luker. Blackston then settled down and got the final three Baby Dawgs to end the game in a Lady Jacket 4-2 victory.

The Lady Jackets were led by Blackston who went the distance, seven innings, giving up eight hits, striking out four and walking five. Blackston only gave up the two earned runs.

Jacket hitters were Holt who went 3-4 with a triple, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Comeens went 1-4 with a double and an RBI. Lindsey went 2-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Grace went 1-3 with an RBI. Cofer went 1-3 with a run scored.

“Glove” Luker got the complete game giving up eight hits, three earned runs and striking out four.

Wilkins went 2-4. “Glove” Luker went 2-3 with a double, run scored and a walk. “Racey” Baker went 1-4 with a double and an RBI. “Toot” Luker went 1-4. “Barbie” Ergle went 1-3.  Karley Early went 1-2 with a walk. Walker had an RBI and a walk. “Pudding” Aderholt had two walks.

Addison drops to 7-7 on the season with the loss and will look to bounce back on the road against Cold Springs Monday night.
