CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman-based Goat Island Brewing announced that on Monday, March 8 it will host members of the national female brewers’ organization Pink Boots Society for the group’s annual Collaboration Brew Day. The event, which coincides with International Women’s Day, will take place at Goat Island’s brewery, 1646 John H. Cooper Dr. SE in Cullman, starting at 9 a.m.

In a statement, Goat Island said, “The event is the largest fundraiser for the Pink Boots Society, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization which promotes women’s roles in the brewing/fermentation industry through outreach and education.”

The Goat Island release continued, “The beer, Giggling Goat Juicy IPA, will use a proprietary blend of hops created uniquely each year by members of Pink Boots through a selection process, which this year was conducted virtually due to COVID restrictions. $3 per pound goes directly to fund the organization. A percentage of the proceeds made from the resultant beer is also funneled back into the organization.

“Women employed directly by the brewery and other women from the community who engage in home brewing will participate in the project, from recipe development and creating a name for the product to brewing, marketing and promoting the new beer, scheduled to be released sometime later in March or early April.”

“It’s exciting that we are participating in this year’s collaboration,” said Hannah Peres, office manager for Goat Island. “Hopefully, this will be the first of many chances we will have to support Pink Boots and encourage women who might be interested in a career in brewing in any of Alabama’s great breweries.”

What is Collaboration Brew Day?

On its website, Pink Boots Society says that its annual event “was born from our members’ desire to take part in International Women’s Day (IWD) March 8th by raising the profile of women’s roles in the beer industry. Chapters and members of Pink Boots Society get together along with supporting breweries and individuals, put on their pink boots, and brew their chosen beer style. Pink Boots Society splits proceeds from sales of this collaboration brew with participating chapters. The revenue is applied to educational scholarships and programming for its members.”

The organization says that its members “are the female movers and shakers in the beer industry. We get the beer brewed and fermented with the highest possible quality. We also own breweries, package the beer, design beers, serve beers, write about beer, and cover just about any aspect of beer, and we are all women. Most importantly, we teach each other what we know through our own seminar programs, and we help each other advance our beer careers by raising money for educational scholarships.”
