CULLMAN, Ala. – Another local athlete celebrated the next step of their athletic and academic career Wednesday afternoon when Cullman football standout Jaylen Hughey inked his signature to play for the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College. Hughey racked up over 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground in his junior season with the Bearcats, earning 6A Second-Team honors, and tacked on nearly 600 more yards with five more touchdowns during his senior campaign. Jaylen has been an impact player on the defensive side of the ball throughout his career as well.

Hughey is one of the latest additions to Head Coach Drew Dallas’ 2021 signing class at Hutchinson and it’ll be a unique experience for Jaylen to see his future team play in just a couple of months rather than in the fall. The Blue Dragons will be one of several schools kicking off the football season this spring after COVID-19 postponed the season in the fall. Hutchinson’s first game will be March 26 at home against Coffeyville.

In a year full of uncertainties, one thing we know for sure is that Hughey’s impact and production on the field will be missed by the Bearcats next season.
