BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Baileyton Town Council on Monday night was happy to welcome back Town Clerk Pat Gilbert. Gilbert was hospitalized for four weeks after Christmas with COVID-19.

Gilbert quickly got to work, opening the sealed bids for the four parcels of land the Town agreed to lease at its last meeting. The bid results were:

  • Parcel 1 (9.6 acres) on Oliver Place- Edward Meherg had the highest bid at $60 an acre.
  • Parcel 2 (8.3 acres) Right side of Fairview Road- Bobby Gorham had the only bid at $7 an acre.
  • Parcel 3 (5.0 acres hay ground) Left side of Fairview Road- Edward Meherg had the highest bid at $60 an acre.
  • Parcel 4 (5.1 acres) Behind Kim’s Parkside Catfish Restaurant- Chris Tipton had the highest bid at $60 an acre.

The council welcomed Blake Mathis, a local representative for AirEvac, who spoke about membership opportunities available for town residents. The Town of Baileyton pays to make sure its residents have coverage within Cullman County in the event they were to need to be airlifted by AirEvac.

Due to that coverage, town residents are also eligible for full coverage at a discounted rate ranging from $35-$45 a year. The additional coverage would cover an individual’s AirEvac flight nationwide. An AirEvac flight without coverage is around $50,000.

Said Mathis, “Even if someone is not insured, they can still be a member.”

For more information on AirEvac coverage, residents can contact Mathis at 256-503-8774.

The Town of Baileyton is gearing up for ball season. Youngsters can be signed up for T-ball and baseball now through the end of the month at Baileyton Town Hall. Baileyton’s registration rates remain lower than surrounding municipalities’, with fees set at $45 for one child, $70 for two children, $90 for three and $105 for four.

The Town is also taking applications for concession workers for the upcoming ball season.

The council entered into an executive session at the conclusion of its regular meeting to discuss candidates for park director.
